This isn’t exactly a new trend, but we are starting to see it gain more traction in the gut health area. The “Global Celery Juice Movement” originated by Anthony William and supported by top name celebrities, has been touted the perfect cure for all health issues ranging from eczema to diabetes to SIBO (small intestinal bacteria overgrowth) to bloating to autoimmune diseases and more. The idea is based on undiscovered sodium clusters, found in celery, which starve and fight off unwanted pathogens and bacteria that harm the body and cause disease. Unfortunately, there is no scientific evidence to support these claims.
Benefits: Celery is a nutritious vegetable it contains calcium, potassium, vitamin B6, C and K and is low in sugar. If you enjoy the taste of celery juice or you want to try celery juicing, then go for it, but don’t wait for a miracle. Alternatively, you can add in some fruit and veg and make nutritious green drink or smoothie.
Risk: If you are taking any medication and you want to try celery juicing, make sure to speak to your doctor or a dietitian to make sure there is no risk of drug-nutrient interactions which can affect how your medicine works.
